Myth of the Amber Room
- seen from the reconstruction of the Amber room of Catherine the Great's Palace in St Petersburg.
During August and September you may experience the story of the re-creation of the legendary Amber Room of Catherine the Great's Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, one of St Petersburg's most picturesque suburbs.
Thanks to the close relationship between Aalborg and the management of Catherine the Great's Palace and the Amber Workshop, we have succeeded in drawing a unique exhibition from the famous "Tsarskoye Selo Amber Workshop" to Aalborg. The exhibition "Myth of The Amber Room" includes a series of select objects – such as copies of fragments from the Amber Room, replica of historical art objects and films about the history of amber and the amazing re-creation, which lasted almost 25 years.
The Amber Workshop also sends a curator and some of their master amber polishers, who will give information about the restoration and demonstrate their old craft to visitors throughout the exhibition period. Visitors may try their own hands at the art of polishing amber, and are offered a chance for restoration of their own amber ornaments.
The exhibition can be seen 13. August – 3. October 2010.
